Shield Game 2025! One of Northern Utah’s biggest rivalries didn’t disappoint Friday night as Weber topped Roy 27–19 to reclaim the Shield! The annual battle, first played in 1965, is about more than just football—it’s a clash of tradition, pride, and community spirit. This year’s matchup saw Carter Payne throw three TD passes and Josh Hamblin break free for an 80-yard score. Roy kept it close with a 71-yard reception from Drayden Esplin and a late TD by Ryker Cordero, but they ultimately came up short. The Shield returns to Weber after Roy’s win in 2024, adding another chapter to this historic rivalry.
Fall is in the air, and so is the spirit of competition! We're excited to see our talented student-athletes from across the Weber School District hitting the fields and courts this season. Here are some pictures from the Girl's Soccer game between Bonneville and Fremont. Lakers came out on top at home (3-1) against the Silverwolves. Whether it's the strategic plays in Girl's Soccer and Football, the powerful spikes in Girl's Volleyball, the precision of Girl's Tennis and Boy's Golf, or the endurance of Cross Country, there are so many ways to support our students and staff. Farr West Elementary celebrated the grand opening of their brand-new playground! Principal Hancock, students, parents, and staff, gathered as the ribbon was cut, officially opening the space for play. This project was made possible by a RAMP grant, and we'd like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this playground a reality. Thank you to the Weber School District Facilities Management for their work on the site, Big T Recreation for the beautiful playground equipment, and the Farr West Elementary PTA and Weber School District Foundation for their support in bringing this incredible space to our students.
It was an exciting day at Washington Terrace Elementary! Students, staff, and the community came together for a special ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open their brand-new playground! This incredible project was a true team effort, funded through a RAMP grant (Recreation, Arts, Museum and Park), as well as dedicated funds from the community and the PTA. For years, students worked hard raising money to improve their play area. Thanks to the hard work of the community council and the principal who wrote the grant proposal, their efforts have resulted in a full replacement.
Home Sweet Home! Roosevelt Elementary is officially back and better than ever! After a year of being spread across four different schools, we celebrated the grand opening of the brand-new Roosevelt Elementary building in Washington Terrace. This amazing new school is a testament to our incredible community. A huge thank you to all the parents, students, staff, and district departments who showed unwavering patience and flexibility during the transition. As Principal Heather Hales said, "We are so proud to be Raptors united under one spectacular roof." A special thank you to all who made this dream a reality, from the Washington Terrace community and our generous taxpayers to our amazing school board, architects, and construction partners. This new building is a symbol of our shared commitment to our students. Welcome home, Raptors!

This year, Weber School District had the honor of hosting Utah’s annual statewide Purple Star School Ceremony, an event that celebrates campuses that go above and beyond to support military-connected students and their families. Gathering at Roy High School, district leaders, educators, and community partners welcomed six new awardees to the Purple Star family: Farr West Elementary, Fremont High, Mountain View Junior High, Roy Junior High, Weber High, and West Field High.
These schools join our five previously designated Purple Star campuses—Majestic Elementary, North Ogden Junior High, Rocky Mountain Junior High, West Haven Elementary, and Roy High—bringing Weber School District’s total to an impressive 11 Purple Star Schools. We extend a special thank-you to Roy High School for hosting the ceremony and to every staff member whose dedication ensures military families feel welcomed, understood, and supported in our schools.

What an incredible night at the 2025 CTE Expo! Thank you to all the students, families, teachers, industry partners, and community members who joined us at the Weber Innovation Center for an evening filled with hands-on learning, career exploration, and fun. From welding and woodworking to drone flying, drift trike races, animal visits, and cupcake decorating—there was something for everyone! It was amazing to see students showcasing their talents and passions while connecting with future opportunities in education and the workforce. We’re proud of our CTE programs and the pathways they open for students across Weber School District.
The Weber School District Junior High Track Meet was another resounding success! We witnessed incredible athletic feats and sportsmanship . A huge congratulations to T.H. Bell Junior High Boys and Mountain View Junior High Girls for their 1st place victory! A heartfelt thank you to all the coaches, volunteers, and staff who dedicated their time and energy to make this a memorable experience for our young athletes.

Tonight we honor the journey that has just begun for our incredible ProStart students at the District Awards Recognition Night! We celebrated their achievements, from ServSafe certifications to Year 1 completion and Senior Graduation Cords. And of course, there were absolutely delicious hors d'oeuvres crafted and presented by these talented students themselves!
So proud of the incredible talent showcased at the WSD District Art Show ! A huge thank you to our esteemed judge, Pat Poce, for her time and expertise. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Jen Dunyon, President of the Weber School District Foundation, and the entire Foundation for their generous monetary support, making a real difference for our young artists. And a special thank you to the Eccles Community Art Center for generously hosting this impressive collection of student artwork!
On Thursday, we rolled out the red carpet for our most creative students at Weberfest—an academy-awards-style celebration spotlighting incredible talent in video production, graphic art & design, and photography across Weber School District! Held at Walker Cinemas in North Ogden, students from all of our high schools were recognized and showcased their best work in 25+ categories. It was inspiring to see the passion and skill displayed across so many different forms of media. To top it off, students enjoyed a classic movie theater experience—complete with popcorn and a drink—as they watched the winning entries on the big screen. We are so proud of the creativity and talent shown by our students—and we can’t wait to see what they create next!
A true Roy High icon! Last week, the Roy High baseball field was named in honor of Coach Fred Thompson. Beyond his impressive record of 5 region baseball titles (ranking 11th all-time in Utah!), 7 region football titles (as defensive coordinator), and 3 region basketball titles (as assistant coach), Coach Thompson's impact on his players' lives is immeasurable. His dedication to their success both on and off the field is his lasting legacy. What a fantastic tribute alongside his wife Helen and their wonderful family!
Reach for the Stars! Nearly 600 of our 6th grade students gathered at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center this week for an unforgettable STEM-filled day at "Reach For The Stars." From building rockets to learning about extreme weather, students explored hands-on STEM stations designed to spark curiosity and inspire future innovators. The highlight of the day? A keynote address from NASA astronaut Dr. John Herrington, who shared his journey to space and encouraged students to dream big and aim high. Students also got an up-close look at the impressive robotic dog from Hill Air Force Base—a hit with the crowd and a peek into the technology of tomorrow.
Congratulations to all our nominees for Teacher of the Year, First Year Teacher of the Year, and Classified Employee of the Year. All were recognized at our nominee banquet held at the Ogden Country Club. We appreciate the Weber School Foundation and Tony Divino Toyota for sponsoring the event.
