Choir singers

The Weber School District Board of Education meeting last night was more than just a formal gathering; it was a vibrant showcase of the talent and dedication that defines our community. From soulful harmonies to major grant announcements, the evening highlighted the many reasons why our 51 schools continue to be a top choice for families.

A Soulful Start

The evening began with a captivating performance by the Bonneville High Tapestry Chamber Choir. Under the expert direction of Mishy Kirby, the ensemble performed “I’m Gonna Sing Til the Spirit Moves in My Heart.” The powerful vocals and precise harmony set an energetic and grateful tone for the remainder of the proceedings.

Honoring Our Own: Awards and Recognition

A central focus of the night was the celebration of the individuals who go above and beyond for our 30,000 students. The district was proud to present three major awards:

  • I LOVE Education Award: This honor was presented to Shalene Elgiar, who serves the Silver Ridge, Farr West Elementary, and Fremont High communities. Shalene’s tireless dedication to her students and her unwavering school spirit serve as an inspiration to us all.

  • E+ Team Award: Recognition was given to our Custodial Department team (Ryan Wheeler, Randy Szerszen, Amanda Christensen, and Kari Gordon). These "behind-the-scenes heroes" were celebrated for their commitment to maintaining safe, clean, and welcoming learning environments.

  • Volunteer Award: The district extended a heartfelt thank you to Sharon Bolos for over 20 years of selfless service. Her long-term commitment is a testament to the strong community partnerships that make Weber District thrive.

Spotlight on Sand Ridge Junior High

The "Principal Spotlight" featured Skylar Kendell from Sand Ridge Junior High. Principal Kendell shared the recent successes of the Scorpions, highlighting the academic growth and positive culture that make Sand Ridge a standout middle-level institution.

Looking Toward the Future: The 12th Street Innovation Campus

In a major announcement for the district’s future, the Board shared that Weber School District has been awarded a state capital improvement Catalyst Grant.

This funding is earmarked for the 12th Street Innovation Campus, a project designed to provide students with a state-of-the-art space to gain real-world professional skills. This grant ensures that our students will have access to the technology and environments needed to compete in the modern workforce.
