The District is proud to announce that Angie Holtry, a dedicated math teacher at South Ogden Junior High, has been honored with the "I Love Teaching" award. This recognition celebrates educators who go above and beyond to foster a love of learning and provide exceptional support to their students and school community.
Bringing Math to Life
For many students, math can be a daunting subject, but Mrs. Holtry has a gift for making it both accessible and exciting. She is known for her innovative "Pancake Day" lesson, where students apply their knowledge of proportions and ratios to adjust recipes for different group sizes. Whether she is teaching simple interest or percent change, she breaks complex formulas down into manageable steps, ensuring every student can follow along. From math-based card tricks to interactive group work, she constantly seeks new ways to keep students engaged and on track.
A Student-Centered Approach
Beyond her curriculum, Mrs. Holtry is recognized for the "welcoming environment" she creates in her classroom. Her students describe her as incredibly patient and approachable, noting that she is always willing to help if they get a problem wrong. Her colleagues emphasize that she never loses sight of the individual, often "bending over backwards" to ensure her students feel comfortable and supported.
A Leader in the School Community
Mrs. Holtry’s impact extends far beyond the walls of her math classroom. She is a vital member of the South Ogden Junior High team, previously serving in student government and as a cheer coach. Her fellow educators view her as a "great person" and a collaborative partner who is always available to offer guidance and share resources.
We invite you to watch the video above to hear directly from the students and staff who have been impacted by Mrs. Holtry’s dedication.
On behalf of the District, we congratulate Angie Holtry on this well-deserved award and thank her for her tireless commitment to the success of our students.
