The Roy High School Chamber Choir, directed by Shannon Sowby, did an excellent job performing "Good Night, Dear Heart" and "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."
Matt Patterson, Principal of Mountain View Junior High School, was recognized for his award as the UASSP Middle School Principal of the Year in the State of Utah. Matt Williams, Secondary Education Director, introduced Principal Patterson and explained the award.
Career and Technical Education Director Rod Belnap and Barry Beus from Intermountain Health shared information with the Board about the new Weber School District and Intermountain Health Partnership Grant of five million dollars to provide students with opportunities to pursue careers in health care professions.
Elementary Education Assistant Director Kirt Swalberg recognized Kelly Hepner, a 2nd-grade teacher at Silver Ridge Elementary, with the “I Love Teaching” Award. He shared how much students enjoy learning in her class and her high sense of dedication. Kelly was nominated by her principal, Heather Georgi.
Human Resources Director of Classified Employees Lauri Adams recognized Mandy Mortensen, a Purchasing Buyer for the District, with the Extra Mile Award. Lauri shared how much experience Mandy has brought to the district and her commitment to helping anyone who needs it. Mandy was nominated by Kirt Swalberg and Mary Jo Williams.
As part of the administrator spotlight, Mountain View Junior High Principal Matt Patterson shared some of the amazing things happening at Mountain View. He shared the process of starting a new school and creating the culture around their mission and vision statements. Matt shared a few of the elements of success that the faculty are focused on, including distributed leadership and a relationships-first culture.
Seth Pilkington was appointed as the Financial Operations Department Director of Accounting. Seth was serving as Assistant Business Administrator. He has a long list of certifications in the field and has over ten years of experience with the school district.
Secondary Education Assistant Director Rob Lake recommended to the Board that volleyball be the new boys' sport at the junior high school level for the 2025-2026 school year. This recommendation was developed through a committee of stakeholders throughout the district. Boys' volleyball was a newly sanctioned sport at the high school level last year. The recommendation was approved by the board.
