West Haven Elementary's very own Mrs. South has been honored with the prestigious "I Love Teaching" Award for December, recognizing her 31 years of dedicated service and her impact on students, families, and colleagues.
Mrs. South has spent 20 of those years teaching at West Haven Elementary, where she has become a cornerstone of the school community. Her passion for education shines most brightly in her approach to teaching reading. With creativity, patience, and an infectious enthusiasm, Mrs. South instills in her kindergarteners not only the skills to read but also a lifelong love for learning.
“She has an incredible way of making each child feel safe, supported, and valued,” said West Haven Principal Courtney Geisler. “Her classroom is a warm, welcoming space where every student thrives. Parents often tell us how excited their children are to come home and share what they’ve learned in Mrs. South’s class.”
Beyond the classroom, Mrs. South is celebrated for her kindness, dedication, and the personalized attention she gives to each of her students. Her ability to nurture their unique strengths and help them overcome challenges has earned her the admiration of parents and staff alike.
“She goes above and beyond to celebrate her students’ progress, no matter how small,” Principal Geisler added. “Her love for teaching is evident in everything she does, and she serves as an inspiration to us all.”
The "I Love Teaching" Award recognizes educators who exemplify passion and commitment to their profession. Mrs. South's 31 years in education stand as a testament to her enduring influence on the lives of her students and the broader community.
Congratulations to Mrs. South for this well-deserved honor. She truly embodies what it means to love teaching.
