Seal of Biliteracy for State of Utah

The Seal of Biliteracy is a great opportunity for 12th graders to show universities and employers that they have achieved at least an intermediate-mid level of proficiency in both English and a world language. Students who earn this seal can receive a graduation cord and the seal will be placed on the student's diploma and high school transcript.

ALL 12th graders who can communicate in a language/languages in addition to English can earn this honor. They must provide evidence of English proficiency by using scores from the following tests taken during grades 9-12: ACT (18 on the English section), Utah Aspire Plus (available only for students who scored a 3 or 4 in 2022-2024), AAPPL in English (intermediate-mid or I-2), and WIDA (minimum overall score of 4.2, including a 3.5 on the speaking portion).

The World Language proficiency score needs to be from AAPPL, STAMP for ASL, or AP. The criteria can be found here: Utah Seal of Biliteracy Assessment chart

Students who have already qualified for this honor (and do not need to take an exam) will be receiving a letter telling them that they just need to fill out the application.

The deadline for application submissions is February 28.

If your child needs to take a test demonstrating proficiency, they must fill out the application and pay for a proficiency test. This costs $45 and it is payable to the bookkeeper at the high school (Exception: students on fee waivers, but they still need to tell the bookkeeper that they are signing up to take a test and fill out the application.).
