Walk down the halls of Bonneville High School and you will quickly realize that history isn't just a subject in a textbook—it is a living, breathing story. At the heart of that transformation is Jordan Stevens, a passionate educator, dedicated coach, and proud Bonneville Laker who was recently recognized with the Weber School District's prestigious "I Love Teaching" Award.
The transition from elementary to secondary education isn't always common, but for Stevens, bringing his elementary background into the high school classroom has proven to be a winning strategy. Administrators and students alike note that the dynamic, high-energy environment he cultivates keeps students fully engaged from the moment class begins.
"Jordan was a phenomenal elementary teacher, so we felt incredibly lucky to pull him into the secondary ranks," said a school administrator. "He brings those foundational lessons and high-energy enthusiasm into the high school setting, which allows him to reach these students at a whole different level."
For Stevens, teaching social studies is far more than delivering lectures—it is a sacred responsibility to honor those who came before.
"My favorite part for sure is that I feel an immense responsibility to bring history back to life," Stevens shared. "To bring the stories and memories of the people who created the world we live in into these young people's minds, so they can learn valuable lessons from the past."
That passion resonates deeply with his students. In his classroom, complex historical events are rendered vibrant and accessible. Students describe his room as a space where high academic standards go hand-in-hand with an inviting, joyful atmosphere.
"I feel like it's a place where you can have fun and still learn at the same time," one student remarked. "He’s happy, energetic, and just one of those people you are naturally drawn to."
Beyond the classroom walls, Stevens brings that exact same energy to the athletic field as a coach. Whether celebrating a student's personal best on the golf course or rallying the entire squad, his focus remains entirely on building up every individual student-athlete.
"He’s the same guy in the classroom as he is on the course," noted a student athlete. "He knows what you need, he focuses on everyone equally, and when you do well, he is genuinely stoked for you. That brings the whole team together."
Deepening his connection to the community is a rich family legacy. Stevens is a legacy Laker through and through; his grandfather was the very first English teacher at Bonneville High, and his father was born on the exact day the school originally opened—August 28, 1960. With generations of his family passing through the school, his commitment to the green and gold runs deep.
"Bonneville blood is in my family," Stevens said. "My mom, my brothers, sisters, aunts, and uncles are all Lakers. I truly love this school."
It is that combination of heritage, subject-matter expertise, and genuine care for kids that makes Stevens an exemplary educator within Weber School District.
"Jordan is one of those teachers you want your own child to have," an administrator reflected. "He is a master at building relationships, a master of his content area, and a incredible storyteller. If anyone deserves the 'I Love Teaching' award, it’s Jordan."
Please join Weber School District in congratulating Jordan Stevens on this well-deserved recognition and thanking him for his unwavering dedication to our students, school, and community!
