At Weber School District, our community thrives because of dedicated individuals who go above and beyond for our 30,000 students every single day. We are thrilled to celebrate Carmen Vasquez, a Student Advocate at Bonneville High School, who was recently honored with the Weber School District Extra Mile Award!
Known throughout the halls of Bonneville High for her boundless energy, infectious positivity, and deep commitment to student success, Carmen exemplifies the heart of the district’s mission.
Bridging Language, Culture, and Success
As a Student Advocate, Carmen plays a critical role in bridging communication gaps for students and families. Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, she provides essential translation support for administrative needs while fostering an inclusive environment across the entire school community—especially through her work with the Latinos in Action program.
School staff note that whether an urgent translation call comes into the office or a parent seeks advice, Carmen is always ready to step up.
Her ability to establish trust quickly helps non-English speaking families feel welcome, connected, and supported in their students' educational journeys.
A Champion in the Classroom and Beyond
Beyond administrative support, Carmen serves as an academic lifeline and mentor for students struggling with coursework or attendance. Colleagues describe her as a "ball of energy" who brings 100% effort to work every single day.
When students are sent to see a Student Advocate, there is no hesitation—they are eager to go because they know Carmen will be there to welcome them with open arms and practical support.
The #WSDAdvantage in Action
Recognitions like the Extra Mile Award reflect the #WSDAdvantage: surrounding every student with compassionate, highly skilled mentors who inspire learning inside and outside the classroom.
From all of us across Weber School District, congratulations, Carmen! Thank you for your tireless dedication to our students, families, and community.
