Girls track medalists

ROY, UT — The 2026 Burchell-Armstrong City-County Track Meet was more than just a competition; it was a historic showcase of talent, grit, and Weber School District excellence. Hosted at Roy High School, student-athletes from across the district didn’t just chase medals—they chased history, resulting in two all-classification state records and a dominant overall team sweep by Weber High School.

A Legacy of Speed: State Records Fall

The crowd at Roy High witnessed a rare feat as two state records were toppled in a single afternoon. Josh Hamblin of Weber High solidified his status as one of Utah’s greatest hurdlers, becoming the first athlete in state history to break the 36-second barrier in the 300m hurdles with a staggering time of 35.92. Not to be outdone, Bonneville High’s Davis DeGroot electrified the stadium in the 200m dash, setting a new all-classification state record with a blistering 20.68.

“To see two athletes from our district perform at that level on the same day is a testament to their dedication and the caliber of coaching in our schools,” said a district representative. “They aren't just winning races; they are redefining what is possible.”

Warrior Dominance and District Depth

Weber High School claimed the overall team titles for both the Boys and Girls divisions, amassing 326 combined points. The Warriors' success was a true team effort, highlighted by Wyatt Rich, who swept the 1,600m and 3,200m runs, and Sadie Fletcher, who secured gold in both the 100m and 200m sprints. In the field, the Warriors remained untouchable with first-place finishes from Sophie Sparrow (High Jump), Abigail Hall (Shot Put), and Asher Kluge (Discus and Shot Put).

Across the track, the district’s depth was on full display:

  • West Field High: In their debut City-County appearance, the Longhorns made an immediate impact. Meleah Conger claimed dual individual titles in the 100m hurdles and the long jump, while the West Field girls swept both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

  • Fremont High: The Silverwolves showcased their middle-distance prowess with Hadley Hansen and Slade Parker taking home the 400m titles, while the boys' relay teams dominated the 4x100 and 4x200 events.

  • Roy High: The Royals represented their home turf with pride, highlighted by Jesse Jones’ massive 164’7.5” throw to secure the javelin title.

  • Bonneville High: Beyond his record-breaking sprint, Davis DeGroot also claimed victory in the 100m dash and the long jump, while Laurynn Citte soared to a win in the high jump.
