At Weber School District, we know that a world-class education begins long before the first bell rings. It starts with a safe, clean, and welcoming environment where students feel inspired to learn and teachers feel supported to lead. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, the impact is felt in every hallway and classroom across our 51 schools.
Today, we are thrilled to spotlight the Custodial Support Team, the latest recipients of the prestigious E+ (Efficiency Plus) Team Award.
Going Above and Beyond the Office
The Custodial Support Team—comprised of Ryan Wheeler, Randy Szerszen, Amanda Christensen, and Kari Gordon—was nominated for their transformative approach to district maintenance. Rather than managing from a desk, this team has moved directly into the field, working hand-in-hand with school administrators and head custodians to tackle challenges in real-time.
Whether it’s modernizing training protocols or providing emotional support to staff during difficult transitions, this team embodies the "above and beyond" spirit of WSD.
Meet Our Award-Winning Superstars
Each member of this team brings a unique set of skills that keeps our district running like a well-oiled machine:
Ryan Wheeler (Supervisor): Ryan has been the driving force behind modernizing our custodial training. His leadership ensures that our buildings aren't just clean, but "opening day ready" every single day of the year.
Randy Szerszen (Assistant Supervisor): Known as the go-to expert for our head custodians, Randy provides technical guidance and support for managing part-time staff, ensuring every school has the resources they need.
Amanda Christensen (Equipment Specialist): Amanda is a true "gear-head" who has saved the district thousands of dollars. By repairing complex machinery in-house and training others on equipment longevity, she ensures our budget goes further for our students.
Kari Gordon (Administrative Secretary): The "organized heart" of the operation. Kari manages the logistics and supplies that allow our field teams to stay focused on the schools.
Why It Matters
A well-functioning building is the foundation of student success. Because of the Custodial Support Team’s dedication, WSD has seen significant cost savings and improved building standards, allowing more resources to stay where they matter most: in the classroom.
From all of us at Weber School District, thank you, Ryan, Randy, Amanda, and Kari, for raising the bar and taking care of the places our students call home!
