It was a historic and inspiring day at Valley Elementary as we were honored to host Governor Spencer Cox, First Lady Abby Cox, and several state legislators for a special stop on their post-legislative "bill signing tour." Our 4th-6th grade student leaders represented the Weber School District beautifully, getting a front-row seat to see how the government works at the state level.
Governor Cox turned the ceremony into an incredible teaching moment. He explained the "long and hard process" of how a bill becomes a law—comparing his role of reviewing and signing bills to the "homework" our students do every day! It was a powerful reminder that leadership involves a lot of listening, learning, and hard work.
While the Governor signed several education bills during his visit, the heart of the discussion was about our children's future and the irreplaceable value of books and reading.
Governor Cox noted that Utah is consistently ranked as a top place to live and work, and he attributed that success directly to the strength of our public education system.
